La Cupular is a dance theatre project founded in Amsterdam in 2021 by Cuban born artist Henry Labrada Rodríguez. The focus is on collaborating and embracing diverse cultures and disciplines to produce ambitious, provocative dance productions for the international stage. By connecting references from the contemporary world and summarising the work under the notion of “The perversion of order and the collective subconscious”, choreographer and composer Henry aims to open up an umbrella to further cover and collaborate with multiple artists, and together transport audiences.

Watch Lost in Parameterization

“Lost in Parameterization” is video art that portrays Fabián’s process of alienation from society and from his own identity. It is inspired by the novel “Fabián and chaos” by Cuban born author Pedro Juan Gutiérrez. While the novel tells the story of a strange friendship between Fabián and Pedro Juan during the decade of 1960, the video looks through Fabián’s metamorphosis to death inside an effervescent and vertiginous Cuba. As it turns around the topic of identity, it intends to investigate the body and the psyche in its vulnerable possibilities, such as depersonalisation, experienced by people during “The Gray Quinquennium” in the island, by which they felt strange to themselves, their body, their sexuality, their ideals and the environment that surrounds them.
“Lost in Parameterization” is the latest work created under the notion of ‘The perversion of order and the collective unconscious’, a phenomenon in which I define and summarise recurring themes in my work and where I create a space for personal and collective reflection about the past and the world of today.
